The Verdict

Reliable luxury with excellent service and comfortable accommodation, but the ageing room and lack of emotional impact prevent it from reaching a higher distinction.

The Review
Inside the Stay

The stay, told in four parts

A dependable luxury stay carried by its people. Warm hospitality, an unprompted upgrade and a very comfortable room, but the interiors are ageing and the hotel wants a little more sense of occasion to lift it further.

The Room We Would Book

A Club Level room, for access to the lounge

The Club Level rooms bring the Club Lounge into the stay, which is where the hotel is at its most itself, all green velvet and quiet coffee and a properly kept counter through the day.

The rooms are otherwise dependable rather than transformative, so the lounge is what tilts the choice; if a complimentary upgrade is offered on arrival, take it.
