Hospitality

The team were brilliant throughout the stay, bringing genuine kindness and attentiveness to every interaction. They helped with luggage, transfers and the buggy journeys around the retreat, making the remote setting feel effortless rather than inconvenient. The service remained warm and accommodating from arrival until departure.

Room and Design

The wooden bungalow had a distinctive two storey design that felt perfectly suited to the mountain setting. Its balcony opened towards the forest, allowing the surrounding trees and changing weather to become part of the room. The interiors were comfortable and characterful, with thoughtful amenities, plenty of water, tea and coffee, although the design relied more on atmosphere than intricate luxury detailing.

Sleep and Comfort

The bed was extremely comfortable, the air conditioning worked beautifully and the room remained peaceful throughout the night. The strong shower and generous supply of hotel amenities added to the sense that everything necessary had been considered. Falling asleep while rain moved through the forest made the experience feel especially calm and restorative.

The Culinary Experience

Dining was one of the greatest surprises of the stay. The bánh mì, quesadillas with avocado, club sandwich, spring rolls and tiramisu were all fresh, full of flavour and consistently enjoyable. The quality felt especially impressive given the remote location, while the pricing remained surprisingly reasonable.

Rather than simply supporting the stay, the food became one of the main reasons the retreat was so enjoyable. Each meal felt comforting and generous, making it easy to remain within the property without feeling the need to look elsewhere.

The Guest Experience

The journey into Ba Vì National Park immediately creates the feeling of leaving ordinary life behind. Buggy rides connect the rooms with reception and the main facilities, while the surrounding forest makes each movement around the property feel like part of the experience. The rain only added to the atmosphere, making the retreat feel quieter, softer and more secluded.

Character and Sense of Place

Meliá Ba Vì feels inseparable from the mountain around it. Wooden buildings, dense forest, mist and historic stone ruins give the property a character that could not easily be recreated elsewhere. Its architecture combines French colonial influence with the style of a traditional northern Vietnamese village, giving the retreat a genuine connection to both the landscape and its history.

Facilities and Wellbeing

The swimming pool was one of the defining features of the retreat. Its mountain setting, adjoining jacuzzi and nearby bar created a beautiful place to spend several hours surrounded by the forest. The gym was spacious, included every machine needed for a complete workout and offered mountain views that made exercising feel unusually peaceful.

A greater level of personalisation and finer room detail would be needed for the highest recognition, but Meliá Ba Vì succeeds through something more instinctive.
