Returns & Refunds

How cancellations, returns, and refunds work for the printed editions and the digital Compendium.

How this policy works

Carter Beau sells two kinds of thing, and each is treated a little differently here. The printed editions of L'Atelier are physical goods, sent to you by post. The Compendium is a digital product, delivered to you online. Your rights when you change your mind differ between the two, and both are set out below.

If anything is unclear, or you would like help before you buy or return something, please write to us at contact@carterbeau.com. We would always rather hear from you first.

Cancelling a printed edition

If you are a consumer, you have the right to cancel an order for a printed edition within fourteen days without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. The period runs for fourteen days from the day after the day you receive your edition.

To cancel, please email us at contact@carterbeau.com before that period ends, telling us that you wish to cancel and including your order number. You are welcome to use the model cancellation wording set out in the Regulations, but you do not have to.

Returning a printed edition

Once you have told us you are cancelling, you have a further fourteen days to send the edition back. It should be returned unused and in its original condition. Please take reasonable care of it while it is in your possession, as we may reduce a refund to reflect any handling beyond what is needed to examine the edition, in the same way you might in a shop.

For a change of mind, the cost of return postage is yours. We recommend a tracked service, as the edition remains your responsibility until it reaches us. Where a return is because an edition is faulty, damaged, or sent in error, we cover the cost of its return, as set out below.

Your refund

When you cancel in time, we refund the price you paid for the edition, together with the cost of standard outbound delivery. Where you chose a faster or more expensive delivery option, we refund only the amount of the least expensive standard delivery we offer.

We make the refund to the payment method you used, without undue delay and within fourteen days of receiving the edition back, or of the day you give us proof that you have sent it back, whichever is sooner.

Limited editions

Each edition of L'Atelier is printed once, in small numbers, and never reprinted. This does not change or remove your right to cancel a printed edition described above. A limited or collectible item is treated the same as any other for the purpose of your cancellation rights.

The digital Compendium

The Compendium is a digital product, delivered to you online rather than by post. Because it is supplied digitally, different rules apply to cancellation.

At checkout you are asked to consent to the Compendium being made available to you straight away, and to acknowledge that, by doing so, you lose the right to cancel once access has begun. If you give that consent and access begins, the fourteen-day cancellation right no longer applies. If you have not yet begun to access the content, you may still cancel by writing to us at contact@carterbeau.com. This does not affect your rights if the digital content is faulty or not as described.

If your order is faulty, damaged, or incorrect

Separately from any change of mind, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if what you receive is faulty, not as described, or sent in error. This applies to both the printed editions and the digital Compendium.

If a printed edition arrives damaged, or there has been a mistake in what was sent, please write to us at contact@carterbeau.com within a reasonable time of delivery, with your order number and, if you can, photographs of the item and its packaging. We will arrange a replacement, a repair, or a refund as appropriate, and we cover the cost of any return in these cases. If a digital purchase is faulty or not as described, contact us and we will put it right.

How to reach us

For any cancellation, return, or problem with an order, please write to us at contact@carterbeau.com. Including your order number helps us find you quickly. We read every message and will reply as soon as we can.
